Sam Appelbaum

Sam Appelbaum has grown up at the JCC. He attended the nursery school and camp, was part of the first class of Jewish Journeys, and taught underserved children to swim in the Saturday Morning Community Partners program. Today he is the regional Aleph Godol (president) for the Manhattan region of BBYO and a member of Empire AZA. He volunteers with the JCC’s Gift of Literacy and Math Tutoring Program and is a teen liaison for Our Soldiers Speak, which dispatches prominent Israeli diplomats, government officials, and military officers to educate future leaders. He is a senior at Columbia Preparatory School, where he is co-president of Columbia Prep’s Young Democrats Club, a member of Model Congress and its Business and Economics Club, and co-captain of the varsity baseball team.

Hannah Schrader

Hannah Schrader has been part of the JCC nearly her entire life. She started at age 2 in Shabbat Club, and attended nursery school, day camp (both at the JCC and at Pearl River), Havurah, and Jewish Journey Project. WIth JJP, she participated in programs on topics as varied as family chorus, cooking, ceramics, and even protest songs. Hannah joined BBYO as an eighth grader, and has held a number of leadership roles at the JCC since--she currently serves as the Morah for the L’dor Vador chapter of BBYO and is also a teen leader for The Joseph Stern Center for Social Responsibility's 2020 Vision fellowship. She is a junior vocal major at LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, where she is co-president of the Gender and Sexuality Alliance and vice president of the Public Forum Debate team.
